Shot on the iconic streets of the city that never sleeps, our latest editorial ‘Concrete Jungle’ heroes New York in all its metropolitan glory.

Being the first stop for fashion month and arguably the most influential city in the world, we’re always in a New York state of mind.

A home away from home for our Brand Director Ben Esakoff, he shares his top spots of Manhattan's popular Downtown district.

“Soho House is my hub and little haven whilst in New York. I stay there, run our showroom out of one of the beautiful spaces, and unwind by the rooftop pool.”

Situated in the trendy Meatpacking District of Manhattan, Soho House is a member’s only establishment, comprised of a hotel, restaurant, collaborative spaces and a magical rooftop with the power to transport you elsewhere. Curl up by the pool with a book from local Dashwood Books, and escape the mayhem below.

While in the neighbourhood, Ben recommends stopping by Murray’s Bagels. Located in Greenwich Village they have been serving traditional, Jewish-style bagels since 1996. Their amazing selection of baked treats, “The Egg Salad and Brisket Bagel is everything”, are made in-house every day. An inexpensive, on-the-go meal, perfectly accompanied by a cup of hot, American coffee.

For dinner, why not dine at Lucien in the East Village? The charming Frech Style bistro, serves an authentic French menu with an impressive wine list. Enjoy traditional gems like escargots de bourgogne and Marseille-style bouillabaisse, without having to cross the Atlantic.

“Lucien is a little slice of Parisian bliss in the East Village. Rich, hearty French cuisine, with a dessert selection that cannot be overlooked.”

For a stiff, New York Style Dirty Martini, Ben recommends heading over the Brooklyn Bridge to Cecconi’s. Located in Brooklyn Bridge Park, this elegant restaurant and bar serves high end cuisine and cocktails seven days a week.  With spectacular waterfront views of the Manhattan Skyline, Cecconi’s is the perfect place to nurse your favourite drink while watching the sun go down.

“Bar Cecconi’s in Dumbo is one of the only reasons I will leave the island. Their extensive list of Negronis is a must-see and the Bergamot and Apricot Spritz is delicious.”

For Art lovers, The Witney Museum of American Art is at the top of Ben’s gallery spaces in the downtown area. The Museum is dedicated to collecting, preserving, and exhibiting arguably the finest collection of twentieth-century American art in the world. The building itself is a structure of architectural beauty. Designed by Renzo Piano, whose attention to detail seamlessly magnifies the artistic considerations apparent on the building’s walls.

For Ben, staying active whilst in New York doesn’t typically involve your traditional Yoga or Soul Cycle spots. He instead opts for walking “everywhere.” Seeing the city on foot is a great way to experience New Yorl's many pockets of charm. For a walk unlike any other, try the High Line. Situated just a block away from Soho House, this historic freight rail line, turned park, is now a hybrid space where visitors can experience nature, art and design from an elevated viewpoint.

On the subject of establishments aptly named with linear references, we draw focus to conceptual retail space, The Line. An absolute favourite of Ben’s, the Line is an immersive store disguised as a beautiful, thoughtfully styled SoHo apartment. Customers are able to purchase anything housed within the space. From the luxury clothing hanging in the wardrobes, art on the walls, to the face oils sitting on the vanity, The Line takes the concept of buying into a lifestyle, and turns it to a reality.

“The Line is an inspiring example of ingenious retail at the luxury level. It’s difficult not to imagine living there!”

If you’re feeling burnt out by New York’s intense sensory experience, it’s time to indulge and rejuvenate. In the midst of the non-stop pace of downtown, an oasis of tranquillity can be found nestled within Tribeca at Aire Ancient Baths. Aire is a mecca of Roman style bath houses, with indulgent experiences consisting of bathing, massages and holistic rituals. Perfectly capturing the New Yorker’s zest for health, this “beyond chic” wellness space, is pure magic and one of Ben’s must-dos.
