A Mending Workshop with Rachel Rutt
Together with artist Rachel Rutt, we held a Denim Mending Workshop in our Fitzroy Concept Store.
Through years of working within the Fashion Industry as a model, Rachel developed a deep understanding of the fahsion industry, the resources it requires, the waste and pollution left behind and the universal culture of clothing over-consumption.
The workshop aimed to motivate participants and provide a pratical skillset in order to evoke change within our habits and mindset. An instructional workshop which not only taught attendees how to mend a faulty denim garment, but to initiate discussion around clothing waste and the importance of strengthening the connection between a garment and it’s wearer.
"My aim through these workshops is to share practical skills that can be applied to sustainable consciousness. It feels very special to be aligned with Nobody Denim because we can both embrace our same values in a personal light” – Rachel Rutt
Throughout the night, Rachel shared her handmaking and textile artistry skills with the room, providing examples of mended garments and instructing how to apply these techniques to any tyoe of pre-loved denim. We were proud to have three Nobody Denim Makers present to assist in guiding practice and reinforcing the skillset necessary to complete the task.
“We are in a position to drive meaningful change and are excited to launch various social responsibility initiatives which we believe will create positive impact with the community and beyond” -Ben Esakoff.
All guests enjoyed an evening of mending, discussion and shared learning with Rachel and Nobody Denim Founders Nick & John Condilis, alongside Brand Director Ben Esakoff. All ticket proceeds were donated to our social enterprise partner, The Social Studio.
